The original pub was built in 1772 by William Burroughes, and sadly destroyed by enemy fire in 1943 when this area of the town was heavily bombed. The pub was rebuilt in 1959 by Lacon's brewery, which overlooked the site. It still retains many Lacon's features including a wall frieze. Now under new management with exiting and positive ideas. The interior is dark wood with comfortable seating. Very close to the market place, and busy on market days (Wed and Sat), the pub overlooks the largest parish church in England. Now converted to an Off Licence and Oriental food shop with an Indian Restaurant.
